Naive Melodies
Home is where I want to be when the world makes me feel numb, but the less we say about it the better. This week, we can make it up as we go along with our feet on the ground and heads in the sky. Home might be where I want to be, but I guess I’m already there, and I’ve got plenty of time. It looks like you’ve got light in your eyes, so let it spread over the Hidden Agenda.

It’s Monday, you know what that means. They, Who Sound is back at Lawndale Art Center as the season rolls on. This iteration holds performances by Randi Long (potentially also with Violette Bule?) and New Factories, a collaboration between Gabriel Martinez, Ronnie Yates, and Justin Rodriguez-Jones.

No need for pranks. The world is going through enough, and rent is due.

Graveyard Shift: BRAINSCAN | 10:30 PM
The River Oaks Theatre | 2009 W Gray St
I was just talking to a friend the other day about the movie Evolver, which is definitely worth watching on Tubi, and he said if he could double feature it, he’d pair it with Brainscan. Lo and behold, Graveyard Shift is bringing you the second half, so it’s a perfect home and theater double feature opportunity.
Saturday, 04/04
Hands-on Houston: Blue & White Mosaic Tiles | 11:00 AM
Craft Center | 4848 Main St
Every once in a while as you meander through the city, you might see some blue & white mosaic tiles decorating the streets. You can see some of those tiles on view in Clutch City Craft, but here’s your opportunity to make one of your very own.
Hey, I also wrote about that exhibition for Arts+Culture, so maybe go read that for some additional context.
Text Layered Bookmarks | 1:00 PM
Dreamers Books + Culture | 711 Milby St., Suite 11
Books, bookmarks, and booktext. What more could you want: details and information? Fine, it’s a hands-on crafting session where you get to create a text-layered laminated bookmark collage inspired by CAMH exhibition Mario Ayala: Seven Vans.
Opening: Four, After All | 6:00 PM
Throughline Collective | 3909 Main St
Swing by Throughline on what seems to be a very active Saturday you’ve got planned to see the work of member artists Luisa Duarte and Carolina Otero, and their invited guests Gabriela Gamboa and Toña Vegas in Four, After All.
Three by Three in Ten by Ten | 7:00 PM
The Silos at Sawyer Yards | 1502 Sawyer St
It’s a Nameless Sound x Fotofest collab! Check out the exhibition Ten by Ten as it becomes activated and funkified by the sounds of Megan Easley, Ruairi Obrien, and Laura Dykes. As the trio improvises in solo and in pairs, the viewers will be drawn throughout the space. It’s free, but they would like you to RSVP ahead of time probably for grant reports or something.
