The Hidden Agenda: Look around, around
The scene’s a little crazy. Events start up each and every day, and I really don’t care. I care. Fortunately, this week asks very little of you beyond showing up, which feels like a reasonable request. Cut and paste at Project Row Houses, stitch and bitch at Brazos, admire some works on paper, and spend some time with Amy Goodman and Kathy Bates.
I don’t remember a line, I don’t remember a word, but I do remember that Houston keeps giving us plenty to care about, whether we want to admit it or not.

Collage Workshop with Tay Butler | 1:00 PM
Project Row Houses | 2521 Holman St
Head over to the row early afternoon to catch a collage workshop hosted by Tay Butler. It says to step into his studio, so it may not actually be at 2521, but someone will be able to point you in the right direction. It’s a good opportunity for you to collage with photos and ephemera while thinking back on Black history, art, and archive.
Luck of the Draw: Chaos | 7:00 PM
DiverseWorks – Gallery @ MATCH | 3400 Main St
If you’ve got the money, they’ve got the art. DiverseWorks is hosting their fundraiser, which means they’ll have over 200 works on paper, each one 7 x 9 inches, ready for your purchase, but it’s first come first serve, oooooh. Also you’ll get to hang out with the staff, enjoy artist duo Hillerbrand+Magsamen as Emcees, and vibe to a DJ set by artist Jamal Cyrus.
Friday, 05/15
of the soft parts (detail), 2025 - Juvana Soliven
Openings | 6:00 PM
Art League Houston | 1953 Montrose Blvd
Two new exhibitions are opening over at ALH: No Longer, Not Yet by Marisol Valencia and Subject to Surviving by Juvana Soliven. Valencia’s work reflects on the collective labor of her volunteer work with a migrant-focused shelter to highlight the complexity of migratory journeys. Soliven balances the intensive labor of craft with the censorship weaponized against women.
They’ll also have a panel with the artists on Saturday for you to learn more.
Wet:LAND Learning Series - A Soggy Affair | 7:00 PMArt Club at Post | 401 Franklin St
Set against the backdrop of Wet:LAND, the Learning Series is 2 lectures. The first is A Soggy Affair with Andy Newman and Lyndsey Ware, an informal conversation that looks at the wetlands in our community through a blended lens of personal history, regional geology, environmental science and reflection. Through this, Ware & Newman hope to deepen the perception we have of our environment beyond scenery and infrastructure. There will also be a second talk on 5/22 with Kristen Schlemmer, Alenka Cardenas, and Mashal Awais of Bayou City Waterkeeper.
Saturday, 05/16
