It’s that magical time of the year again. Wear your paper cuts like a badge of honor; fill your pockets with stickers, chapbooks, and maybe a risograph manifesto. Why, it’s ZINE FEST HOUSTON! But that’s not the only event in town this week. As always, there’s plenty to do, so no need to waste your 11/11 wish on a fun event.

You know what time it is: They, Who Sound cracks the week open with collaborations by Will Adams/Ronnie Yates & Solidad Decosta/Nicole Sebesta/Leif Steenson. Get revved up for synths, guitars, drums, poetry - so experimental, so improvised.

Artist Christopher Paul conducts a participatory performance at Lawndale, guiding the audience toward their own Buddha Field. What a good opportunity to find out what that means!

Kirsten Ostherr, Dr. Ricardo Nuila, and artist Berenice Olmedo join in conversation to cover the intersection between art and medicine, exploring how collaborations between the fields might proffer innovation in both.

Yearning for some burning? Get active and also weird, I guess at this event that may have you yelling TOGA, TOGA, TOGA in the middle of the museum. Run/walk through Montrose from the smaller bean sculpture, then return to the Museum’s Roof Garden for a gathering with a music, matcha, and more.

Dancing with Bob: Rauschenberg, Brown, and Cunningham | 7:00 PM

Take a shot for this rare opportunity to see a dance event showcasing excerpts from Brown’s Glacial Decoy (1979) and Set and Reset (1983), interwoven with sections of Cunningham’s Travelogue (1977).The event honors and celebrates the centennial of Rauschenberg by highlighting the artist’s collaborations with the choreographers.
There’s another performance on Saturday, also at capacity but hey, give it a go!

Well YEEHAW! It’s Zine Fest day at last in Houston, and what a beautiful opportunity it is to support zinesters, printmakers, performers, and a whole swath of cuties from all over the place. Whether you’re after photo magazines, sweet illustrations, or cool punk shit, there’s something for everyone and always a few random dogs wandering around. Check out the schedule of events and the full vendor list if prep is your thing. Definitely get ready for sensory overload.
